Privacy
What this service knows about you, why, and how to make it forget.
What is kept
- Your email address, so you can sign in and so we can send you a password link.
- Your notebook — the words you're learning, the groups they're in, your conversations and lessons with their transcripts, the tutor's notes about your mistakes, and your practice tally. This is the service; without it there is nothing to come back to.
- What each request cost — the date, which part of the app asked, how much text was involved and the price of it. This is how a monthly allowance is enforced. It does not include what you wrote.
- Billing details held by Stripe, not by us. We keep only Stripe's customer reference and whether the subscription is active. No card number ever reaches this service.
Where your writing goes
When you talk to a character, ask for a hint, or have your answer checked, what you wrote is sent to a language-model provider to produce the reply. It is sent for that purpose and no other. We do not use your writing to train anything.
Some requests contain nothing about you at all — the sentences that practise a word, the words that go with another word, a recording of a word being read aloud. Those answers are kept and reused for everyone learning that language, because they would otherwise be generated again identically. Nothing you typed is ever shared this way.
Who else is involved
- Supabase — stores your account and your notebook.
- Cloudflare — runs the service that sits between the app and the model providers.
- Stripe — takes the payments. Their privacy notice covers what they hold.
- The model and speech providers currently configured, which receive the text described above. They are listed on request and this page is updated when they change.
Cookies
None for advertising or analytics. Your browser stores your sign-in so you stay signed in, plus small preferences — chosen voice, sound volume, how the word list is sorted. Those never leave your device.
Taking it with you, and deleting it
Settings has an Export button. It writes one file containing everything: every word, group, conversation, lesson and note. It works whether or not you are still subscribing.
To delete your account and everything in it, write to hello@animelang.com from the address you signed up with. Everything is removed, apart from the records Stripe must keep for tax purposes.
Children
This service is not intended for children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them.
Changes
If what is kept or who it is shared with changes, this page changes with it and you are told by email before it takes effect.
